No Ayurvedic doctors in graduate employment scheme
Not a single Ayurvedic doctor had been recruited despite the government's pledge to recruit 230 under the graduate employment scheme introduced by the UPFA government recently.
Thus the Ayurvedic doctors islandwide recently formed a new organisation to force the UPFA government to recruit more Ayurvedic doctors for government hospitals.
Secretary of the All Ceylon Health Services Trade Union (ACHSU), Dr. R.M.W. Ranasinghe said the government had failed to recruit a single Ayurvedic Doctor under the present project to grant employment for nearly 30,000 graduates despite the initial decisions by the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine to recruit 230 doctors for government service.
" The decision was taken following the pressure enforced by ACHSU and Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA)," he said.
Dr. Ranasinghe however pointed that the Ministry had failed to keep its initial promise of recruiting Ayurvedic doctors and had left them no choice but to seek trade union action within the next week.
There are nearly 1000 Ayurvedic doctors working islandwide at government hospitals and nearly 100 trained Ayurvedic students graduated from universities every year despite the government not assuring all of them job opportunities. (DH)
